5 Draftable Positions of Need Beyond 2024
Taking a look into the future to see who the Chiefs might add in later rounds of the 2024 draft
The Kansas City Chiefs are entering the NFL Draft with some of the biggest roster holes that they’ve had in the Brett Veach era. They need a wide receiver addition to the roster, and if you listen to Andy Reid, they also probably need an offensive tackle added to the room as well. That has led to a lot of focus placed on those two positions leading up to the draft — and rightfully so. However, those are “now” problems for the Chiefs, and not necessarily ones that fit in the “best player” scenario on the team’s board in rounds one or two.
With that in mind, I wanted to turn the page to 2025 and take a look at the way the Chiefs’ roster is currently constructed outside of receiver and offensive tackle. By looking ahead, we can see the positions that might be on the table as early as round 2 for this team with a forward-thinking mindset. With Veach under contract for the next SEVEN years, the mindset isn’t always the “now” problems, as he’s got plenty of runway to work through. He’ll need to keep that in mind with a projected $40M in cap space and only 25 players currently on the roster in 2025.
So today we’ll dive into the 5 positions that I think are most likely for the Chiefs to draft based on 2025’s roster construction alone — and where the sweet spots in the 2024 might lie for those positions.
