The Chiefs are 3-1 after a dominant win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Sunday Night Football.” The general feeling from Andy Reid and players after the game was that the team managed to respond in the right way after their disappointing Week 3 loss in Indianapolis.
“Listen, we stunk it up last week. We all knew that, we admitted it to you,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid told reporters after the game. “We didn’t play the way we should play. Not that the Colts aren’t a good football team. You don’t do the things that we did and expect to win the football game. We were still in the battle for it, but you can’t do those things. The guys cleaned it up today, which is important. If this becomes an ongoing issue, then you’re not going to win a lot of games. So, it was important that the guys put their foot down and did what they did. My hat goes off to them for that effort.”
A lot of the success the team had on Sunday night started in the trenches, with the offensive line blocking up the passing game and running game against the Buccaneers’ No. 1 ranked scoring defense. The offensive line didn’t play well the week prior, but they made sure to kick things up a notch in Week 4.
“They accepted the challenge,” Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said of the offensive line. “They made our team roll today. That’s a great defense, great defensive line. And I think they heard the talking, not only from (the Buccaneers) but from everybody about how they didn’t play well the last week. They accepted that challenge and they went out there, and when they dominate like that, it makes my job a lot easier.”
As the team shifts its attention to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5, they’ll look to keep the momentum going and build off of what they accomplished.

5 stats to know for Chiefs in Week 5 vs. Raiders:
1. Series history: These teams have one of the most storied rivalries in the NFL, playing each other 126 times since 1960. The Chiefs currently lead the all-time series 70-54-2. Kansas City has beat the Raiders in eight of their last nine matchups against each other, with the lone win for Las Vegas coming in October of 2020.
2. Chiefs vs. HC Josh McDaniels: Before becoming Raiders head coach this year, McDaniels spent two years as head coach of the Broncos in 2009 and 2010. He had a 2-2 record against Kansas City while he was with Denver, but he might have a bone to pick with the Chiefs. He was relieved of his duties as head coach after a 10-6 loss to Kansas City in Week 13 of the 2010 season.
3. Strength on strength: The Raiders’ offense has been predicated on the ground game as their running backs averaging five yards per carry on 91 rushing attempts so far this season. The Chiefs’ rush defense had a coming-out party against the Buccaneers in Week 4, limiting the Tampa ground game to just three total yards on six carries.
4. Mahomes on Monday Night: Since Patrick Mahomes took over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2018, the Chiefs have played seven games on Monday night. During that span, the Chiefs are 6-1, with their lone loss being the 54-51 game against the Los Angeles Rams in 2018. Mahomes has completed over 67% of his passes for over 2,000 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions in those seven games.
5. Kelce’s dominance vs. Raiders: Over the weekend, Travis Kelce moved into fifth place in NFL history for receiving yards by a tight end with 9,328 career receiving yards. More than 1/9th of those receiving yards (1,226 to be exact) have come in his 16 career games against the Raiders.

10 Things:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel gives 10 things he loved to see from the Kansas City Chiefs BIG win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football.
Quotable:
“The NFL hasn’t seen anything like [Patrick] Mahomes – I promise you that. You saw it today – he’s the Houdini of our era. The guy just finds ways to make plays throughout the game – big-time third down, big-time goal line plays [and] just willing our team to the endzone – willing our team to win. That’s our ultimate leader, man.” - Travis Kelce on Patrick Mahomes
“So we’re getting to know number 10 (Isiah Pacheco). I mean he’s growing right before our eyes. We’ve spotted him in periodically just to give him some experience and see how he handled it. But we know Clyde (Edwards-Helaire) is good, 1 (Jerick McKinnon) can play. These guys are – they’re all good, they’re all talented. Greg (Lewis) does a good job of trying to work them in in certain spots. But it’s more of a learning experience with 10 and the more you see, the more you utilize him and Clyde on the first downs and 1 on the third downs. He (Jerick McKinnon) does such a good job there. So that was kind of where we were last night. I think that was pretty obvious.” - Andy Reid on how he picks and chooses when to play each running back
