A Busy Day for Wide Receiver Trades. Are the Chiefs Next?
Assessing what's transpired recently in the wide receiver trade market
The Chiefs had almost the earliest bye week you can in the NFL and will endure a long stretch in their pursuit of a championship. It’s satisfying to be the lone undefeated team in the AFC, and are well positioned to be the one seed and potentially give key players a break heading into the playoffs.
The attrition to this point in this season has been very real for the Chiefs, however. Gone are the wide receivers expected to be the top two pass catchers at the position due to injury — Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown. Isiah Pacheco has been lost for an extended period of time.
Imagine telling yourself heading into the season that the leading rusher for the Chiefs week five performance would be Kareem Hunt and the leading receiver would be Juju Smith-Schuster.
The team has endured key losses and has found themselves trying to maintain a championship level roster around Patrick Mahomes in the pursuit of a threepeat. They’re exploring all options and have acted swiftly to address needs as they present themselves.
It is expected that the Chiefs will be in the market to add another receiver before the trade deadline. The sellers of the market are starting to reveal themselves, and in fact have already started selling. Two of the top names in the receiver market — Davante Adams and Amari Cooper — went off the board on Tuesday.
