Welcome back to a brand new week of KCSN Daily, where we deliver the best Kansas City Chiefs content to your inbox.
Travis Kelce continues to prove that he’s one of the greatest to ever play the tight end position. During Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, he achieved something that only four other tight ends in the history of the game have ever accomplished. With a 37-yard catch in the first quarter, Kelce went over 10,000 career receiving yards.
Kelce joined Shannon Sharpe (10,060), Antonio Gates (11,841), Jason Witten (13,046) and Tony Gonzalez (15,127) as the only tight ends to ever do it. He even outpaced Gonzalez, the previous fastest tight end to the 10,000 career yards mark, by 37 games.
That wasn’t the only big achievement for Kelce in Week 14, though. He also notched his seventh consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season, extending his record for the most-such seasons by a tight end. No other tight end in NFL history has more than four 1,000-yard seasons in their career.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid is never too big on celebrating individual achievements when there is still football left to be played. These achievements were a different story.
“Yeah, that one with (Travis) Kelce last night (surpassing 10,000 receiving yards and recording his seventh consecutive season with 1,000 receiving yards) I thought those are big numbers now,” Reid said. “You start talking about you know 10,000 yards —receiving yards — that’s a pretty good haul for a career and then when you start stringing them together like he has — 1,000 yards for what is it? Seven straight? Seven straight years, that’s pretty spectacular, too."
Directly after the game, Kelce told reporters that the win meant more than the stats, but he also gave credit to his coaches and teammates for enabling him to have such success in his career. It’s clear that he has his eyes on a different prize with another Super Bowl within reach.
KCSN Live Postgame Show:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel, Kent Swanson, and more go live following the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Denver Broncos to break it all down.
Stats to know ahead of Week 15 vs. Texans:
Series history: The Chiefs have an 8-5 overall record against the Texans since 2002 when they first became an NFL team. Kansas City’s most recent win over Houston came in the 2020 NFL season with a 31-20 win in Week 1.
Turnover troubles: Both the Chiefs and the Texans rank at the bottom of the NFL in terms of total turnovers. Houston has the second-worst mark in the NFL with 22 total turnovers on the season. Kansas City has the sixth-worst mark at 19 total turnovers on the year. The team that does a better job holding onto the football in this one might emerge with the win.
Opposites on third down: The Chiefs lead the NFL in third down conversion percentage, converting on over 51% of their third down attempts. The Texans are the second-worst team in the league on third down next to only the Denver Broncos, converting just 28.3% of the time. Kansas City surrendered six third downs to Denver on 17 attempts in Week 14. Food for thought with a similar team approaching.
10 Things:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel gives the 10 things that stood out to him following the Kansas City Chiefs rollercoaster win over the Denver Broncos yesterday.

Quotable:
“You have seen it since he has been in the league. He has been making plays like that. We always emphasize scramble drill throughout camp and the season. Whenever he breaks the pocket, guys do a pretty good job at getting open. Mostly he finds [TE Travis] Kelce on some crazy stuff. We always just try to be there for him and make plays.” - Jerick McKinnon on Patrick Mahomes’ playmaking ability
“It was just three bad decisions. The first one, I could have taken an easy throw to the outside but tried to force it to [TE Travis] Kelce. The second one, I was just trying to burn it and he made a hell of a play. I was just trying to throw it away at someone’s feet. The third one was just bad because of the situation. We are in field goal range, especially at altitude, and if I throw the ball away we can let [K] Harrison [Butker] end the game. Luckily for me, the rest of the team stepped up. The defense made a lot of stops in critical moments. We were putting them in bad situations. Even the special teams was making field goals and [P] Tommy [Townsend] flipped the field a couple of times for us. The guys around me stepped up and made some plays.” - Patrick Mahomes on his three interceptions
Quick Hits:
From KCSN: Check out some of the highlights from the Soul of KC Holiday Raffle & Toy Drive!
From the NFL: Chiefs Director of Player Personnel & Pro Scouting Tim Terry is set to attend the NFL’s front office accelerator program beginning tomorrow. He could be the next in line in the team’s front office to get a general manager job.
From the ATL: Former Chiefs RB Damien Williams was released from the Atlanta Falcons’ injured reserve list. He’ll be subject to the NFL’s waiver wire, but he could be an interesting depth option for Kansas City. Up until the 2021-22 postseason when Travis Kelce (12) surpassed him, Williams held the Chiefs franchise record with 10 postseason touchdowns.
From Big Red: Fox 4 Kansas City’s Rob Collins noticed a striking similarity between Patrick Mahomes’ TD toss to Jerick McKinnon and Andy Reid’s mustache marker toss in his State Farm commercial. What do you think?
