Chiefs and DE Alex Okafor Reunite For One More Season
The Kansas City Chiefs and Alex Okafor reunite for another season
Just as the situation at defensive end was starting to look grim, the Kansas City Chiefs and free agent Alex Okafor have agreed to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The deal comes one day after former Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Melvin Ingram signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers for one year. The Chiefs had previously met with Ingram but nothing came of it.
Okafor has been in Kansas City for the past two seasons where he’s played in 21 games. During his time as a Chief, the 30-year-old end has recorded 38 tackles, 19 quarterback hits, eight sacks and six tackles for loss.
With Okafor, the Chiefs are adding a player who is familiar with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s system while the uncertainty at the defensive end position continues. He also brings the ability to play on all three downs for Kansas City.
The terms of his contract have not been released yet. This story will be updated as new information comes out.
