Chiefs carry 5-2 record into the bye week | KCSN Daily 10.24
Plus injury news, latest KCSN podcasts, quotes, transactions and more Chiefs news.
Welcome back to an all-new week of KCSN Daily, where we deliver the best Kansas City Chiefs content.
The Chiefs saved their best performance of the season for the final game before the bye week. In Week 7 against the 49ers, we saw an offensive explosion featuring the team’s top three receivers combined with a defensive eruption on the back of Steve Spagnuolo’s relentless blitz game.
The performance lifted Kansas City to a 5-2 overall record on the season, giving them sole possession of the AFC West lead. They’re also in a two-way tie for the second-best record in the AFC conference with New York Jets, only coming in behind the Buffalo Bills.
As for the bye week, Chiefs HC Andy Reid feels like it’s coming at the right time for his team. Not only will it allow them to get even healthier, but it’ll provide the coaching staff an opportunity to really delve into the things that worked in San Francisco.
“Yeah, I think so,” Reid said. “I think it's a good time. 5-2 looks a lot better than 4-3. I think it comes where we could afford to get a little bit healthier in some spots, in particular the corner spot, as long as the guys are out there and being safe. And that's kind of my primary concern right now and to get back on time. That's always important. This leads them into a nice positive week where they can have some recovery time.”
The players will get an opportunity to mentally and physically recharge before they get back to it with a game against the Titans on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 9. Tennessee is always a physical opponent and they had the Chiefs’ number when the two teams faced off a year ago, serving K.C. a 27-3 loss in Week 7 of 2021.
“Yeah, we had a tough schedule going into the bye,” Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes told reporters after the game. “We knew that going into the season. Obviously, we lost a couple of games that we wanted to win. But when you look back on it and you’re 5-2 and you’re first in the AFC West, you can't ask to be in a better position. So now we have to recalibrate, get off our feet, get our bodies back and then learn. Because when we come back in this next best stretch, we're gonna be ready to go and try to make a push to get to the playoffs and then try to get to the Super Bowl.”

KCSN’s BJ Kissel, Kent Swanson, and more go live from the Kingdom Bar and Grille in Overland Park, Kansas following the Kansas City Chiefs game against the San Fransisco 49ers to break it all down.
Injured defenders expect back in Week 9:
The Chiefs managed to enter the bye week with no new injuries suffered during the Week 7 win over the 49ers. Chiefs HC Andy Reid did provide an update on a trio of defenders who were inactive for that game due to injuries.
“(I) really don't have any injuries to mention here,” Reid said following the game. “We should be on a positive note — (Mike) Danna, (Trent) McDuffie and (Rashad) Fenton, we have a chance of getting back here, this next week here. So, and it is a bye week. I got it. But we’ll get them back.”
McDuffie remains on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Fenton has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury. Danna was back for Week 6 against the Bills, but he appeared to have suffered a setback in the 25 snaps that he logged against Buffalo. All three players are expected to make their return on the other side of the bye week.

Quotable:
“I think we actually play better when we're down. I don't like to be down because it puts so much pressure on us to go out and score or go ahead and make a stop. But, I guess we like challenging ourselves at this point. But no one, no one got rattled and we came together as a team. I said at the beginning of this year we're going to face a lot of adversity as a team but it has continued to build character as a whole.” - Chiefs DT Chris Jones on coming back from a 10-0 deficit
“Skyy is a great player, he is a great returner too. I know he wants that play back, he came over and said ‘thank you’. That’s Skyy. I am glad we got the opportunity to stop them from putting points on the board. That was just a big turning point of the game.” - Chiefs CB Joshua Williams on his interception after Skyy Moore’s muffed punt
Quick Hits:
From an All-Pro RT: It’s always fun to see what former Chiefs RT Mitchell Schwartz is thinking after a big win. This week, he had high praise for Andy Reid’s ability to frustrate and slow down one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL in 49ers EDGE Nick Bosa.
From Rebirth Island: Chiefs WR JuJu Smith-Schuster revealed that a recent “Call of Duty: Warzone” session with Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Marquez Valdes-Scantling helped foster their offensive performance and chemistry in Week 7. Valdes-Scantling took to Twitter to agree with Smith-Schuster.
From CBS: Stat guru Jeff Kerr pointed out that the Chiefs are the only team in the NFL with more than one 40-point game this season. It’s not surprising that Patrick Mahomes is on pace to throw for over 5,000 yards and 49 touchdowns.
