Chiefs get rematch with Bengals for AFC title game | KCSN Daily 1.23
PFWA All-NFL, All-AFC teams, KCSN podcasts, transactions and more Chiefs news
Welcome back to a brand new week of KCSN Daily, where we deliver the best Kansas City Chiefs content to your inbox.
The Chiefs kept their Super Bowl LVII pursuit alive with a 27-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC divisional round. The Buffalo Bills also fell to the Cincinnati Bengals 27-10 in the AFC divisional round.
As a result, Kansas City will play host to the AFC Championship Game for the fifth consecutive season, which is the most by a team in NFL history. It’ll also provide the Chiefs an opportunity for retribution against a team that has been a thorn in its side for the past two seasons.
Kansas City failed to defeat Cincinnati in the AFC title game a season ago, despite carrying a huge lead into halftime. In Week 13 this season, the Chiefs had their first opportunity at revenge and fell short with a 27-24 loss. Both games had glaringly similar self-inflicted wounds and blown opportunities. The Bengals were able to capitalize on those mistakes and fight their way back each time.
This time around they’ll hope things turn out differently, but there’s a new challenge ahead with Patrick Mahomes suffering a high ankle sprain in the AFC divisional round. Will the Chiefs be able to overcome that challenge and beat their football Boogeyman? Only time will tell.

KCSN Update:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel sits down with ESPN's Matt Miller to get his stock up and stock down reports following the Kansas City Chiefs 27-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional Round on Saturday.
Quotable:
“I mean I’m not coming out of a playoff game unless they take me out. I’m just going to play. I love this sport too much; I love this game. I love playing with my teammates and being able to go out there and enjoy it together. We prepare all year to be in the playoffs and to play in these games and I’m glad that I was able to get back in the game and it’s something that I just love competing in this sport and pain is pain and you’re going to have to deal with it either way.” - Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on why he stayed in the AFC divisional round game on Saturday
“I knew he was going to be juiced up. (He’s) a rookie, (in a) playoff game (and) with his mentality, I just told him to just be himself (and) set the tone. And that’s exactly what he did from the beginning. Anytime you get him going, I tell the coach, ‘just keep giving him the ball.’ He’s exciting, electrifying, and makes things happen.” - Jerick McKinnon on Chiefs rookie RB Isiah Pacheco’s performance
Quick Hits:
From KCSN: Our Joseph Hefner has some snap count data from the Chiefs’ latest playoff game available.
From No. 87: Travis Kelce is a big fan of playoff football.
From Wesley Roesch: My colleague at Chiefs Wire made an interesting observation about some changes to the field goal block unit.
