Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire the 'No. 1 guy' for Week 14

The Kansas City Chiefs ruled out RB Isiah Pacheco for Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills as he nurses a shoulder injury to the same shoulder he had surgery on this offseason.
You shouldn’t rely on the depth chart to find out who will be starting on Sunday, though. Chiefs HC Andy Reid revealed on Friday that former first-round draft pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire would be the team’s starter at running back, and not Jerick McKinnon, who is listed second on the depth chart.
“Yes (Clyde Edwards-Helaire will start),” Reid said. “We’ve got different personnel groups but yes, he’s the No. 1 guy, yes.”
Edwards-Helaire was benched in favor of Pacheco in Week 7 of the 2022 NFL season and the Chiefs never looked back. Reid says that his attitude regarding the change has been nothing other than professional.
“He’s done a great job with all that,” Reid said of Edwards-Helaire. “He’s a good kid, Clyde (Edwards-Helaire) is a good kid. The chances he’s had to play, he’s done very well.”
In five career games against the Bills (incl. postseason), Edwards-Helaire has averaged 4.98 yards per carry and four yards per reception.
Is Chiefs schedule THE BEST remaining in the AFC?
On rookie RB Deneric Prince:
Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed that rookie RB Deneric Prince will be elevated from the practice squad via standard elevation for the second consecutive week. Last week, the rookie didn’t see any snaps despite being active for the game. That could change this week without Isiah Pacheco and with the team potentially looking to get him involved as a pass-catcher.
“He’s done a good job, smart kid,” Reid said of Prince. “He’s more comfortable with the offense than he was in the preseason where he had to go. We have confidence in him. (He’s a) good catcher, big kid that can run.”
Expect that the Chiefs will give Prince a few opportunities to get his feet wet and potentially catch the Bills off guard with a player who hasn’t seen much action this season.
