Chiefs Thrive in Red Zone in Week One
The "no notes" joke gets thrown out a lot these days on the old Twitter machine. It applies to the Chiefs' offense in week one against the Arizona Cardinals. They were masterful in our first look at their new personnel in a real game.
There were so many questions about how this offense would look without All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill. The early indications in training camp and preseason games seemed to indicate good things were coming. Those beliefs were confirmed on Sunday in Phoenix.
The Chiefs converted half of their 66 offensive plays into first downs. The Cardinals couldn't find much to slow this unit down. They marched up and down the field with little resistance.
Teams have been fine with letting the Chiefs eat between the 20s and tightening up in the red zone. They've looked to force long, sustained drives and hope the Chiefs make a mistake. The execution in the most critical area of the field matched the performance everywhere else -- they operated at a high level.
