Chiefs to square off with Eagles in Super Bowl 57 | KCSN Daily 1.30
Plus KCSN podcasts, quotes, transactions and more Chiefs news.
Welcome back to a brand new week of KCSN Daily, where we deliver the best Kansas City Chiefs content to your inbox.
The Chiefs are finishing the 2022 NFL season in the same exact stadium they began it in. After dispatching the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game, they’re heading back to Glendale, Arizona at State Farm Stadium to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, Feb. 12.
This mark’s the team’s third Super Bowl appearance in the past four seasons and the fifth total Super Bowl appearance in franchise history (1966, 1969, 2019, 2020, 2022). The team will look to make it a winning record in Super Bowls as they currently hold a 2-2 all-time record. That includes a 1-1 record under the QB-HC combination of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. They have a win over the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV and most recently a loss to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.

KCSN Update:
KCSN’s Tucker Franklin sits down with Craig Stout to talk about three groups who stepped up during the Kansas City Chiefs win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game.
Quotable:
“When you really cut to the chase on it, they’re a really good football team and so, I think that’s where the energy goes because really when it’s kickoff, you’re playing that team. It’s the players that you’re going against and the coaches and so the uniform, (and) all that’s not where your mind’s at. Your minds at making sure you have a solid game plan and that you come out and you can perform to the best of our ability. That’s I think where the major focus goes, and you try to – it doesn’t matter who you’re playing – you try to blank out all the hype that goes with the game. It’s a pretty big game for everybody, you guys included, it’s a big, big deal. It’s the Super Bowl. But you try to blank that out and make sure that you’re getting the game plan – what really matters – together.” - Chiefs HC Andy Reid on facing his former team in the Super Bowl
“I didn’t expect to be able to run very much. Just from the way it felt but the training staff, (Assistant Athletic Trainer) Julie (Frymyer), did a great job of getting me enough range and mobility that I was able to protect myself and at the end of the game there I had to run to get the first down and got us into field goal range so credit to them (the training staff) and then just trying to stay on it. (We) have two more weeks so we gotta keep doing it.” - Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on playing through his high ankle sprain
Quick Hits:
From the trophy case: After last year’s disappointing AFC title game loss, bringing the Lamar Hunt Trophy back home is that much sweeter.
From the NFL: The league informed clubs that the salary cap for the 2023 NFL season will reach $224.8 million. The Chiefs are now projected in the top half of the league in terms of salary cap space for next year.
From another planet: Patrick Mahomes was otherworldly against the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game. This was his opus, his “over my dead body game” as the great Terez Paylor would say.
From the history books: Only Jerry Rice has been more productive than Travis Kelce in postseason history.
From the field: Enjoy a look at Frank Clark smoking on that Joe Burrow pack.
From the broadcast booth: If you didn’t hear Voice of the Chiefs, Mitch Holthus, deliver the call of the AFC title game win.
