The Chiefs had yet another chance for a comeback victory and to have a go-ahead score in the final minutes of a game but fell just short again. They took over possession of the ball with 1:54 left in the game at their own 25 yard line.
The Chiefs defense had held the Bills to just 3 points and left the Chiefs’ offense enough time to make waves but an insane series of events followed.
It was more of the same for the Chiefs with a litany of mistakes from various players of different kinds that ultimately led to the Chiefs failing on this final drive.
Blame will be put on the officials, blame will be put on the quarterback, and blame will be put on the offensive line, but at the end of the day the same position that has been a problem all year continued to be a problem.
First, we need to just admire this incredible play by Travis Kelce. To catch this pass, work upfield, see Kadarius Toney trailing, and throw a perfect lateral into his chest is an amazing sequence. This would have been a play of the year contender had it been able to stand, unfortunately it wasn’t.
Kadarius Toney was aligned in the neutral zone to start the play. A lot has been made about this play post-game but it simply should have been avoided by Toney just looking to the official and asking him.
It’s WR 101 to get aligned and check your position with the ball or with the official. He apparently did neither and given his tight split, got no warning from an official (not his job to go out of his way to warn him) and it drew a flag.
This erased the amazing TD and set the Chiefs up with a 1st and 15. They had plenty of opportunities to convert the series still and fell short.
That aspect can’t be overlooked but no play will loom as large as Toney’s misalignment erasing a go-ahead TD with just over a minute left in this football game.
My stomach hurts watching it! I don't care that Mahomes blew a gasket; the gasket needed to blow :
Hopefully that lights the fire we all been waiting on!
