Players to watch in Week 10:
DT Khalen Saunders: The former third-round draft pick is off to the best start of his career, logging 12 defensive stops, two sacks and eight total pressures on the year according to PFF. He’s proven in the last game that he can be an early-down run defender in addition to taking snaps as a pass-rusher. Expect that Saunders gets an uptick in snaps against Jacksonville, who has a sneaky-good running game and an athletic quarterback.
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire: With Jerick McKinnon questionable, it’s possible that Edwards-Helaire sees his snap total increase, especially on third down. Edwards-Helaire has seen his snaps dip, with just 17 offensive snaps in each of the last two games. Outside of McKinnon, he has the most pass-blocking snaps on the season with 13, allowing just one pressure during those snaps according to PFF. He also happens to have the second-most receiving yards on the season next to McKinnon (151) and the most passing touchdowns among Chiefs running backs (3).
WR Skyy Moore: With Mecole Hardman officially ruled out, all eyes are going to be on Chiefs rookie Skyy Moore. The rookie receiver has caught just six passes on 13 targets for 100 yards receiving this season. Two of Patrick Mahomes’ passes intended for Moore this season — one in Week 5 against the Bills and one in Week 7 against the 49ers — have been intercepted. Another was nearly intercepted in Week 8 against the Titans. Given how Kadarius Toney performed in Week 9, there is hope that Moore can perhaps take a step forward this week should the team make a concerted effort to get him involved.
TE Travis Kelce: Last week, Travis Kelce tied Rob Gronkowski for the most 100-yard receiving games for a tight end in NFL history. This week, he can game take sole possession of the record with 33 career 100-yard receiving games, but it won’t come easy. The Jaguars have not allowed 100 yards to a tight end in a single game this season with the most coming from Broncos rookie TE Greg Dulcich (four receptions for 87 yards) in Week 8.
Defensive film review - How the Chiefs defense adjusted vs. Titans rushing attack:
KCSN’s Craig Stout sits down with Super Bowl Champion offensive lineman Nick Leckey to break down the success of the Tennessee Titans run game in the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs defense and the adjustments they made in the second half to stifle their attack.
Quotable:
“It’s health. There’s a progression that occurs I feel like with every player, and when you’re robbed of that, you don’t get to see that progression and so early on (in my) second year I’ve played one game, was out and then last year played pretty ok up until the Tennessee (Titans) game where I think I had (a) pretty good game against Tennessee and you know we obviously lost and then (I) got hurt again. So yeah, being healthy you’re getting to see me putting together a full season is the biggest thing that people are getting to see this year.” - Chiefs DT Khalen Saunders on what clicked in 2022
“We did add a couple more in for (Kadarius) Toney, so we’ll see how that part goes. You know we’ve got the other guys. Like you said, Skyy (Moore) can jump in and play in different spots. We should be okay.” - Chiefs HC Andy Reid on the plan with Mecole Hardman injured
