Players to watch in Week 5:
LB Darius Harris: Harris has done a good job filling in for Willie Gay Jr., but this could be a tough week for him. In 55 coverage snaps this season, Harris has surrendered five receptions on nine targets for 20 yards and two touchdowns. One touchdown was surrendered to Zach Ertz in garbage time in Week 1 and another to Jelani Woods in the loss to the Colts. If Harris is isolated 1-on-1 in coverage with Darren Waller, it could be a long day for the Chiefs’ backup weakside linebacker.
KR Isiah Pacheco: Last week, Isiah Pacheco was this close to busting off a kick return for a touchdown. He might have a chance again in Week 5. The Raiders have only allowed three kick returns all season, but their coverage on those returns has been abysmal. They’ve allowed 108 yards total on three returns, which is good for the fifth-most kick return yards allowed in the NFL. If they don’t kick it out of the end zone, expect Pacheco to take it out and gain some positive yardage.
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire: In 27 career games since 2020, Edwards-Helaire has just 10 regular-season rushing touchdowns. 40% of those rushing touchdowns have come in games against Las Vegas. He’s also averaged 4.3 yards per carry during his career against the Raiders. In their last three games, they’ve allowed 4.5 yards per carry to opponents. It might be wise for Kansas City to work to get the run game going this week.
DT Chris Jones: In his lone game at Arrowhead this season, Jones recorded six total pressures and two sacks. That performance came against an AFC West opponent and he has another on deck. Jones seems to play better in front of the home crowd, just because of how he feeds on their energy. Five of his career sacks (51.5 total) have come against the Raiders and Derek Carr, so it could be a big day for the Chiefs’ star interior lineman.
KCSN Update 10/7:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel catches up with Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus to talk about his three key matchups for the Kansas City Chiefs in their game this Monday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Quotable:
“Yeah, their running back (Josh Jacobs) – a stellar guy. I think he ran for over 110 (yards) last week. (Raiders QB) Derek Carr. You know their record doesn’t reflect how good of a team they are. (Raiders Head Coach) Josh McDaniels is slowly opening the playbook for them. We got to try to stop, to slow down these guys. They made a couple of changes on the offensive line. They have an exceptional group. They have one of the best tight ends in there (Darren Waller). Their offense is very dynamic. (Raiders WR) Hunter Renfrow (is) one of the better slot guys in this league. And when you look at the dynamic of their offense, they’re pretty challenging for a lot of situations. It’s hard to go man-to-man (and) when (Raiders WR) Davante Adams one-on-one. Then you worry about Hunter Renfrow. Then they got a running back who can rush for 100 yards on any given Sunday, so we got to try to draw up a scheme to stop these guys.” - Chris Jones on Raiders week
“Yeah, listen I mean it’s – again you’re playing the Raiders, and this goes a lot further back than you know then myself so I would anticipate (a) live crew in the stands. I think it’ll be a great atmosphere for a football game.” - Andy Reid on the atmosphere he expects on Monday night
