The Chiefs have played their last prime-time game of the season, at least as things currently stand. Tuesday evening the NFL announced that they had flexed the team’s Week 14 game on December 11 against the Denver Broncos out of “Sunday Night Football.” The Week 14 game between Kansas City and Denver will now be played at 3:05 p.m. CT on CBS.
The NFL doesn’t provide reasoning for enacting their flexible-scheduling procedures, but they do have it in place to ensure that competitive matchups with playoff implications are nationally televised late in the season. Instead of watching the Chiefs beat up a bad Broncos team, they’ll have the Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins playing on Sunday night. Even though it’s a more competitive matchup with playoff implications, it’s a little surprising to see the NFL pull Patrick Mahomes from prime-time.
While flexible-scheduling procedures are in effect through Week 18, only Weeks 15 (Texans), 17 (Broncos) and 18 (Raiders) are eligible to be flexed for Kansas City. The Week 16 game against the Seahawks cannot be flexed because it’s played on a Saturday and the flexible-scheduling procedures only apply to Sunday games. It’s a safe bet that we won’t see the Chiefs play another prime-time game until the playoffs come around.

KCSN Update:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel and Brett Kollmann discuss how the Kansas City Chiefs schematically match up with the Cincinnati Bengals ahead of their meeting on Sunday.
Quotable:
“Well each one of these things is a learning lesson, right? Win or lose. You come out and you spend all these hours dissecting what you could’ve done better, and it doesn’t matter the game so you’re taking lessons out of each game. This one was – for Pat (Mahomes) that’s what it was, what he said. But we all, everybody’s got that. Chris (Jones) said, ‘I missed this sack.’ (Nick) Bolton said he had two interceptions that he dropped. I look in the mirror and I go, ‘There were some calls I would’ve liked to have had back.’ So everybody has that and as long as they’re willing to admit it there’s a chance to get better and that’s the kind of thing you’re wanting to do.” - Chiefs HC Andy Reid on what the AFC title game loss to the Bengals serves as a reminder of
“Yeah, when me and Brittany – when we had Sterling, we didn’t know if it was a girl or boy at first, so we started thinking of girls and boys names. We wanted to obviously – them to have that connection and them to be brother and sister forever. Obviously, I always wanted to do ‘Patrick Lavon Mahomes III.’ I’ve thought about that since I was literally like I was five, six years old. I always thought it was going to be ‘Tre’ as the third because you hear a lot of people doing that and my brother Jackson (Mahomes), whenever we were trying to find something that was a little unique and different, he said, ‘What about Bronze? It fits perfectly with Sterling.’ And so, we went with that. I think it works out well and he can have his own thing now where he’s not Patrick, he’s Bronze even though he’s Patrick. And Sterling and Bronze can have that connection moving forward.” - Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on son's “Bronze” nickname
