Following his arrest on Monday, Kansas City Chiefs WR Justyn Ross has landed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List. This list is a tool that the NFL uses often when players face criminal charges.

What exactly does that entail for Ross?

He cannot practice or play.
He no longer counts against the 53-man roster.
He can attend team meetings, train in team facilities, and receive treatment for injuries.
His stay on the list is indefinite while the NFL gathers more information.

“You guys know about Justyn Ross being put on the Commissioner’s Exempt List,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said on Friday. “We’ll just let it play out the way it goes, that’s what that list is for until all of the information is gathered.”

Reid did not have any input on the decision, however, he says the league conferred with two decision-makers in Kansas City.

“I didn’t have the input, it was (General Manager) Brett (Veach) and (Vice President of Football Operations/Team Counsel) Chris Shea, they deal with all that,” Reid said. “They had conversation there, but it’s really to gather – it’s not to prosecute, it’s to gather information and buy us time there for everybody to do that.”

Reid indicated that he had spoken with Ross regarding his arrest, but that he plans to keep those conversations personal.

On Mecole Hardman’s second week back:

Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman hit the ground running in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers. He made a big impact on special teams with a 50-yard punt return and followed it up with a crucial 6-yard reception on third down.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid expects that he’ll be even more comfortable in his second week back with the team.

“I would say, yes,” Reid said. “You could see he picked things up fast, even the couple of days he was here. This week has helped him even more with that part. We’ll see how that all works out as far as the game goes.”

Hardman played just 20 total snaps last speak. Expect that number to increase against the Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

The Kansas City Chiefs are at their best when they can get into advantageous down and distances to where they can easily get into the dime. The numbers back up that statement, as the Chiefs dime defense is allowing 3.8 yards per snap — just over a yard per play less than any other grouping that the team regularly utilizes.
