After suffering a high ankle sprain against the Chargers this weekend, former first-round draft pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire is now heading to injured reserve. It’s the second time he’s been placed on injured reserve during his career, after missing five games last season on the reserve list due to an MCL sprain. NFL rules require Edwards-Helaire to miss the next four games, meaning he’ll miss matchups with the Rams, Bengals, Broncos and Texans at a minimum.
With Edwards-Helaire heading to the injured reserve list, Ronald Jones has a chance to be made active for Week 12. Should that happen, it’ll mark the first time he’s been made active all season.
“Yeah, just it’s an opportunity to get in and work, literally,” Reid said. “And there’s a chance, he has a chance to play — a legitimate chance. But within that he’s got to make sure he has all the protections down and the timing of the runs. Those are things we’ll look at, but he’s been working at it and I don’t think he should have a problem with that.”
In a corresponding and expected move, the Chiefs activated OT Lucas Niang from the Reserve/PUP list to fill Edwards-Helaire’s spot on the 53-man roster.

Quotable:
“Yeah, it was big. (It was) just a confidence booster. He’s someone who puts in the work every day. And we have a lot of guys in that receiving room, so the ball gets spread out a ton and he hasn’t got the numbers that I think we thought he was going to have going into this season. And so for him to make big catches in big moments in a big game, it shows that all that hard work that he puts in every single day is paying off. And he’s someone who will be a contributor to this team for a long time.” - Patrick Mahomes on Skyy Moore’s game in Week 11.
“Just have to be technically sound at the end of the day. He’s a great competitor, a great player and when you have a great player you’ve got to be on your ‘A’ game. Ultimately, (I’ve) just got to work my technique and do what I do best.” - Trey Smith on going against Rams DT Aaron Donald
