The Kansas City Chiefs continued their final week of training camp with a waterlogged practice session at Missouri Western State in St. Joseph, Missouri. That meant good news for the defense, who had challenged themselves to put together a better day of work on Tuesday per Steve Spagnuolo. Offensive skill players struggled with catching and ball security, leading to some missed opportunities during practice. This is why Andy Reid likes to practice in the elements, though. It provides a reference point for players and the coaching staff if the team plays in the rain during the course of the season.
On Tuesday, Danny Shelton participated in his second training camp practice with the Chiefs. In a short time, he’s found himself feeling quite at home in Kansas City. That was made apparent during his press conference where he appeared his authentic self while speaking with reporters.
How exactly does veteran defensive tackle fit in Kansas City, though? Shelton has played in a number of different systems throughout his career. He adds a layer of versatility and grit to the team’s defensive front that it didn’t previously have.
“Four down (linemen) is a little more fun, three down is a little more gritty. That’s me” Shelton said. “I grew up with the hard-nosed football, you know, no gloves and just smashing somebody in the face. I personally like three down, 1-on-1, bring on the double team or triple team. I’ll do my best to push the pocket.”

Can the Chiefs’ offense be more explosive without Tyreek Hill? BJ Kissel, Nick Leckey and Tucker Franklin discuss on the latest episode of Outside The Trenches:
Quotable:
“The last few days (have) been good. First of all, it was great to get that under my belt and play my first pro game. (The) last couple of days I’ve just been trying to clean up the things that I need to clean up so I can have a better performance next game.” - Chiefs rookie WR Skyy Moore on preseason Week 1
“I’m not going to lie, it feels good. I’m coming in mid-camp and a lot of guys don’t want to hear a new guy talk and stuff. I’m here trying to soak up everything and add a little knowledge to the younger guys too so I’m here helping out as much as I can, but it feels great to be welcomed from these guys.” - Chiefs DT Danny Shelton on his warm welcome at training camp
