Carlos Dunlap remains a free agent after spending the 2022 NFL season with the Chiefs. The 34-year-old edge rusher recently spoke with Forbes’ Jeff Fedotin and was candid about his desire to continue playing in the NFL. He revealed that the door hadn’t yet closed on a return to Kansas City, but do the Chiefs need to continue adding to the edge rusher room?
Let’s recap:
George Karlaftis is expected to take a jump in Year 2 after a dominant end to the 2022 NFL season.
Mike Danna is entering a contract year — and as the great Terez Paylor would say — the contract year is undefeated.
Charles Omenihu was the team’s second-biggest free agent acquisition this year.
Draft capital was spent on both Felix Anudike-Uzomah and BJ Thompson.
There’s the possibility that a player like Joshua Kaindoh surprises and makes things interesting this offseason.
Sure, the Chiefs lost Frank Clark, but they’ve also already made some quality investments to go along with the pieces they already have in the fold. A Dunlap return might not be necessary and might even send the wrong signal.

Quotable:
“Yeah, well you know you’ve got guys that are motivated guys. You start with the quarterback (Patrick Mahomes) and Trav (Kelce) - they’ve been through the whole thing so they know what it takes to get there and they’re able to communicate that and they do that. You know we’ve got a bunch of guys that were there, and they understand the trials and things (and) the energy that it takes to get there. I’m aware of all that. I get to see it every day and then I get to see them go out there – as some of you guys did – you got to see them go out there and compete (during mandatory mini-camp) and I’m having to slow them down because of the rules which is a good thing. So, they want to challenge each other to go fast and all that so sometimes you’ve got to pump the breaks there a little bit.” - Andy Reid on keeping players motivated following Super Bowl win
