Over the past two days, Chiefs fans have been greeted with a pleasant surprise. As Patrick Mahomes hosts his teammates for throwing sessions down in Texas during Phase I of the offseason program, there have also been some 2023 NFL draft prospects in attendance.
On Tuesday, TCU WR Quentin Johnston was spotted catching passes from Mahomes during the throwing session. Many didn’t think much of it, being that Mahomes and company were working at TCU’s indoor practice facilities. Things have since changed in that regard. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Boston College WR Zay Flowers would head to Texas to work with Mahomes at the request of the team.
For those wondering about the rules in this type of situation, I’m told there is nothing in the CBA preventing this from happening. It’d be a different story if this were taking place at the team facilities in Kansas City, but the fact that the workouts are entirely run by Mahomes and his people changes things. If the team did, in fact, request that Flowers do a pre-draft workout, it would fall under those guidelines. Teams can conduct private workouts for prospects at non-team facilities up until April 27. However, these types of workouts are entirely separate and don’t count toward the 30 allotted pre-draft visits.
Here’s a look at some of the latest KCSN content on both Johnston and Flowers:
