Five Matchups for a Big Matchup Against the Buffalo Bills
The Chiefs-Bills rivalry is the highlight of NFL seasons now. The epic battle we saw these two teams participate in for a chance to host the AFC Championship Game last year was one of the best games ever played. It cemented a rivalry that was already bubbling with the last few years of matchups between two teams with two elite quarterbacks.
There’s been a rhythm, though to this matchup that has yet to be broken — the Chiefs wind up winning when it matters most in the playoffs. Patrick Mahomes is 3-1 against Josh Allen. The Bills “exacted revenge” on the Chiefs in the 2021 regular season after getting beat handily in the 2020 playoffs. They fell short yet again in the playoffs that year.
So what does this game mean? It’s easy to be dismissive of it’s importance because we’ve seen the Chiefs just find a way to wind up on top. Last year’s regular season game was supposed to be the decider of the one seed and that didn’t work out for either team.
Are the Bills really excited about getting their revenge again? That didn’t work out so well for them. All it did was fuel a lot of bad faith regular season narratives that faded when the Chiefs wound up hosting their four AFC Championship.
Both teams will be motivated. Both teams have had this game circled. But we won’t know what any of this means until January.
Here are five key matchups to watch in the Chiefs’ game against the Bills.
