Harrison Butker trending toward Week 6 return | KCSN Daily 10.13
Plus latest KCSN podcasts, quotes, transactions and more Chiefs news.
Welcome back to the newest issue of KCSN Daily, where we deliver the best Kansas City Chiefs content.
The Chiefs are tracking to get another important piece of their team back in Week 6. After sitting out the majority of the season due to an ankle sprain suffered in Week 1, Chiefs K Harrison Butker is tracking to return against the Buffalo Bills.
The team is still proceeding with caution and getting both Matthew Wright and Butker ready for Week 6, but there are some encouraging signs to start the practice week.
“Good,” Chiefs ST coordinator Dave Toub said when asked how Butker looked. “He looked good at practice. We’re going to practice him again today. He’s day-to-day. We’ll get both guys ready and we’ll make a decision at the end of the week.”
After a limited practice on Wednesday, Butker was then declared a full participant on Thursday. It’s the first time he’s been able to put together consecutive practices since his injury.
Asked about his chances of playing, Toub indicated that things are trending in that direction. The only thing that would put a damper on his return is if he were to suffer a setback.
“I feel good,” Toub said. “He looked good. As long as we don’t have any setbacks. We’ve just going to keep working him and we’ll see. We’re not ready to say, ‘Yeah, he’s in.’ We’ve got to wait, but he looked good yesterday.”
How Butker’s ankle responds after his full practice session on Thursday will be the main indicator of whether he’ll be back on the field on Sunday.

Quotable:
“Oh yeah. I thought Jerick (McKinnon) did a great job of just setting it off. That 30-yard run or so that he had earlier, that set the tone, that set the tempo (and) picked our guys up. It was the spark that we needed. From that point on – obviously Jerick contributed and did a heck of a job but it’s always good when you have a good group of football players that love and respect each other because they understand ‘Hey, he just made a play. Let’s keep riding with him and see exactly what unfolds.’ It was fun to watch, but on top of that, we also know (that) next week or this particular week it could be Clyde (Edwards-Helaire), (Isiah) Pacheco, it could be (Michael) Burt(on), it could be Pat making plays with his legs. It could be Mecole (Hardman) so, next man up.” - Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy on the RB situation moving forward
“Yeah, we talked about Jaylen (Watson), but Darius (Harris) certainly has proven that he deserves to be out there and we all have confidence in him when we have to go to him. I think we’ve talked about this before, we were always very confident in his mental aspect of the game, he’s shown that. And then he’s shown up in his tackling, he gets better and better. Again, maybe there’s a little blessing there too. We didn’t want to lose Willie (Gay), but we did and now we have a better idea of what Darius can do.” - Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo on LB Darius Harris
Quick Hits:
From the Sky: The U.S. Air Force Academy's Parachute Team, The Wings of Blue, parachuted into Arrowhead Stadium for “Monday Night Football.” The Chiefs shared a 360-degree video view of it and it’s pretty neat.
From the locker room: Chiefs WR Juju Smith-Schuster came decked out to the Week 5 game in custom “Black Panther” gear. Radio host Steve Walls got a closer look at his custom Black Panther Adidas Cleats.
From Al Bundy: Chiefs TE Travis Kelce got a special message from “Married. . . With Children” character Al Bundy (played by Ed O’Neill) this week. His character infamously scored four touchdowns in a single game as Kelce did against the Raiders in Week 5.
