I have a confession to make: As the playoff were approaching, I didn’t believe that the Chiefs had a real shot at the Super Bowl this year. I didn’t believe that the Chiefs team we had seen since our bye week was capable of stringing together four good games against playoff teams, en route to our third Lombardi in the Patrick Mahomes era.
I didn’t believe.
I had lots of reasons for not believing, too. I watched the games. I saw the drops. I sighed over the drive killing penalties. I lamented Andy Reid’s play calling in crucial moments. I ran the numbers myself, and saw the numbers from others, clearly demonstrating that the Chiefs were not the top dog this year.
