KCSN Draft Guide Preview: S Lewis Cine
We’re only two weeks away from the draft!
The 2022 edition of the KCSN Draft Guide released a week ago, and we’re ready for the big weekend to get here.
Thanks to our Partners In Possible, Emprise Bank, for helping this become a reality!
We continue our weekly profiles from the guide with a safety out of Georgia the Chiefs could be interested in taking in the first round.
S Lewis Cine — Georgia
6’1” — 199 — Cedar Hill, TX
Grade (round): 2nd
2021 Stats: 43 TKL, 2 TFL, 9 PBU, 1 INT
Background:
Former four-star recruit. Two-year starter. Was born in Haiti and lived there until he was 4 and his family migrated to Florida. First-team All-SEC (2021). Third Team All-American (2021).
Strengths:
Cine is a tone setter. Willing to run his face through a wall, play-in and play-out. Screams up the field in run defense and arrives with bad intentions. He has the ability to get a jump on run plays near the line of scrimmage because he quickly IDs what is happening in front of him.
Cine uses his hands well to keep offensive players off of him and can defeat blocks with good technique — and does not have to rely on running around blockers. He is an instinctive player who sees the field very well. His change of direction and balance down the field are great — he is able to compete with wide receivers at the catch point — and he uses his length and leaping ability very well.
Cine is always around the ball. He does a nice job of trying to dislodge the ball from the receiver by striking or by raking his hands through the catch point; he never thinks he is out of the play. As a deep safety, he shows plenty of range and can cover a lot of ground.
Weaknesses:
Like most players with his mentality he can take himself out of plays from time to time. He is often right in his diagnosis but he can get caught peeking in the backfield.
You love the mentality he plays with, but against better competition (Treylon Burks did this to him once) he needs to make sure he secures the tackle instead of just going for the knockout blow. He is not the biggest guy in terms of density and his brand of football leads to some concerns about his longevity in the NFL.
How he fits with the Chiefs:
Cine is a culture changer on the defensive side of the ball. His brand of football is infectious. His testing showed that he is more versatile than what he showed us in college.
Kansas City could use him in a variety of ways. He has the mentality to play in the box but also the fluidity to drop in coverage, and the length to hang with tight ends. He is a true difference maker who could step into a leadership role similar to what the Honey Badger has brought in the past.
