NFL trade deadline approaches | KCSN Daily 10.26
Plus KCSN podcasts, Patrick Mahomes MVP odds and more Chiefs news.
Welcome back to the newest issue of KCSN Daily, where we deliver the best Kansas City Chiefs content.
The NFL trade deadline isn’t quite the spectacle of the NBA or MLB trade deadlines, but things have picked up in recent years. Just last season, the Chiefs acquired DE Melvin Ingram from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round draft pick. Could they be in the market to make a similar type of move at the deadline again this year?
If one thing is for certain, you can expect that general manager Brett Veach and his team are doing their due diligence on all of the players and trades available to them. There might not be an Ingram-type situation out there for K.C. to take advantage of this year. When you consider the team’s salary-cap restraints and their decision to infuse the roster with young talent this offseason, it makes a trade for a veteran player seem less and less likely.
Nonetheless, there is still plenty of time for things to change and for more players to hit the market. The trade deadline is set for Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 3:00 p.m. CT, which means there are still games to be played between now and the deadline. Teams like the Texans, Steelers, Browns, Jaguars, Saints and Commanders could be even more willing to sell at the deadline after Week 8 concludes.
One On One:
Former Chiefs OL Jeff Allen and DL Mike DeVito go One-On-One to give their reactions on the Chiefs' huge victory over the San Fransisco 49ers and give their personal NFL bye week experiences.
Could Patrick Mahomes win MVP this year?
All offseason, the talk of the town was about how Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense would fair without Tyreek Hill. Through seven weeks, Mahomes is the NFL’s leader in passing yards (2,159) and passing touchdowns (20). He’s accomplished this feat while facing several of the league’s top-ranked defenses. So where does Mahomes stand in the MVP race with this knowledge? According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Mahomes is currently +400 to win the league’s MVP award. That means you’d have to bet $100 in order to profit $400. Only Bills QB Josh Allen has better odds to win the MVP award at +120.
KCSN Update:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel sits down with Brett Kollmann to talk about the Kansas City Chiefs' first half of their season, Chris Jones' case for defensive player of the year, and how ridiculous Patrick Mahomes has played this year.
Quotable:
“First you just give it to the offensive line. [Kansas City Chiefs LT] Orlando Brown, I don't know if you saw him, but he was getting out on the edge. [Kansas City Chiefs TE] Jody Fortson had a key block out there, too. Without them, I wouldn't get in the end zone. I think coach called the play at the right time and we executed.” - Chiefs WR Mecole Hardman on his touchdowns in Week 7
“We have guys everywhere on this offense. The receivers obviously had a big day today. The tight ends have had big days. Running backs have had big days. That's going to be who we are as an offense. It's gonna be everybody. As long as it all starts up front and the offensive line plays like they did today, we'll have a good day as an offense. We have a lot of playmakers on this team.” - Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on the playmakers on offense
Quick hits:
From Houston’s KPRC2: NFL reporter Aaron Wilson says that the Chiefs are among three clubs who have inquired about Texans WR Brandin Cooks in trade.
From APEC: Patrick Mahomes’ trainer Bobby Stroupe shared a nice training sizzle reel from offseason workouts.
From Baton Rouge: Clyde Edwards-Helaire is wasting no time during the bye week. He’s down in Baton Rouge training with Skillz Evolution South director Craig Brodie.
