If you’re reading this on Wednesday when it posts, you’re probably going to sit down this evening and watch America’s Game for the 2023 Kansas City Chiefs when it airs on NFL Network. While NFL Films wasn’t able to get Taylor Swift to narrate the show (and we’ll have to deal with ONLY Paul Rudd), the excitement for Thursday’s game will probably intensify as you watch — the same way it has for me the past two seasons.
It can be a challenge to navigate the emotions of such a high level of success as a fan. We’ve seen this team overcome a mediocre regular season last year to still find their way to the top. Sometimes the enthusiasm for the start of another season can be muted knowing that this team will be playing January football barring one significant injury to a player that will not be named. We’ve seen this team handle business when it matters the most.
Lucky for us, the players aren’t going to treat it like that. There is too high of a standard within the building, there are fresh faces that haven’t achieved what the Chiefs have, and the sport itself is too hard for anyone to not be focused on the week-to-week grind if they want to be successful. No one wants to go through what they went through last year in order to get to where they finished.
For a fanbase that has become so accustomed to winning during the Patrick Mahomes era, the start of the season brings opportunity for this team to get one leg up on a pair of key competitors in the AFC. Sweeping Baltimore and Cincinnati to start the year would provide a big jolt in their chances of securing the one seed in the AFC.
On the eve of the season, I wanted to see how I thought things would shape out for the entirety of the NFL, and of course the Chiefs. I predicted every game of the 2024 season. Here’s what I think happens, starting with the Chiefs’ schedule.
