Ronald Jones relegated to third team reps | KCSN Daily 8.11
News and more from the latest Chiefs training camp practice
Welcome back to the latest edition of KCSN Daily, where we bring the best Chiefs news directly to your inbox every day.
The Kansas City Chiefs completed their final training camp practice on Thursday before shipping up to Chicago for the preseason opener against the Bears. The team won’t practice again until Monday, Aug. 15, which will also mark the beginning of the last week of training camp.
Thursday’s practice saw some interesting developments in the running back room. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Jerick McKinnon and Isiah Pacheco took reps with the first team offense. Derrick Gore took reps with the second team. Ronald Jones was relegated to working with the third team and his snaps in team periods of practice were sparse. This isn’t the first time it has happened that way either.
“Some days he gets more than other days,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said of Jones, via Chiefs Wire. “But he’s taking advantage of the chances and working hard. But he’ll have a chance to play (in the preseason). We’ll just see how he does.”
We’ll see what the preseason brings for the veteran running back.

“I’m not saying that it won’t change. I’m never going to say ‘never.’ But I think it’s good to get the juices going, get yourself out there even if it’s a limited amount of play, prepare yourself, prepare yourself mentally for real play. I’m not saying that’s wrong what the other people are doing it’s just kind of where my comfort is.” - Chiefs HC Andy Reid on playing starters in the preseason
Want to know how NFL players prep for Week 1 of the preseason? Listen to former Chiefs OL Jeff Allen and DT Mike DeVito explain:
“When you have a guy who is learning and not making the same mistakes, a young guy at that, it’s always a good thing to see. And like I said, when you get in the game, it’s different. You have to make sure you’re not making those mental mistakes as much as the physical ones. To see him kind of lock in, learn the playbook and then go out there and execute on game day will be something that will keep building that trust for me.” - Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on what he wants to see from Skyy Moore in the preseason
