Welcome back to a brand new week of KCSN Daily, where we deliver the best Kansas City Chiefs content to your inbox.
The Chiefs suffered a 24-20 defeat at the hands of the Buffalo Bills in Week 7. It was a disappointing result in a game that could ultimately determine the No. 1 seed in the AFC conference. The players and coaches seemed to feel that they had too many mistakes to overcome against a good football team.
“We had too many mistakes when it was all said and done,” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said after the loss. “And they had a few less ones than what we did. But, it’s good to learn from this and it can benefit you down the road if you handle it right. This team will definitely do that.”
While many of the players are hoping they’ll meet the Bills again in the playoffs, they have another good football team coming up in Week 7 as they travel to face the San Francisco 49ers. They can’t fall into the trap of looking too far ahead and need to remain focused on their next week of preparation.
“We have a great football team we’re playing (next week) and (then) we’re going into the bye (week) and then we’re going to have a schedule of a lot of division opponents coming up,” Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said following the loss. “So we want to make sure we focus on this next week - how can we get better to go out there, to go out there execute and try to find a way to win against a great football team at their home.”

Stats to know ahead of Chiefs’ Week 7 game vs. 49ers:
1. Series history: Whoever wins in Week 7 will hold the all-time series. The Chiefs and 49ers have a 7-7 record against each other since 1971. Since Andy Reid arrived in 2013, Kansas City is 2-1 against San Francisco. The Chiefs’ latest win over the 49ers came in Super Bowl LIV.
2. Another Super Bowl rematch: Prior to the Week 4 game against the Buccaneers, we did some digging on Super Bowl rematches. In every regular-season rematch that has occurred since Super Bowl LII, the team that lost in the Super Bowl has won the rematch. That bit of information doesn’t bode particularly well for Kansas City this week.
3. 49ers defensive dominance: The Chiefs are getting another tough defense this week — one that might be viewed as the best in the NFL when it’s all said and done. The 49ers have allowed the third-fewest points in the NFL through six games (89). They’ve allowed the fourth-fewest rushing yards (525) and the third-fewest passing yards (1,010) on the season. They’ve also recorded more interceptions (5) than they’ve allowed touchdowns thrown (4). They’ve produced the second-most sacks in the NFL with 23 on the season. This has all been done with injuries to key defenders too.
4. Potential for Chiefs’ defensive bounce-back: The Bills’ offense gave the Chiefs’ defense fits at times in Week 6, but there is potential for a bounce-back performance in San Francisco. The 49ers have a middling passing offense, with just seven touchdown passes to four interceptions on the year. On the ground, they’re averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

KCSN Update:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel sits down with ESPN's Matt Miller to get his stock up and stock down report from the Kansas City Chiefs 24-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills yesterday.
Quotable:
“Well, it’s two good teams playing, so the speed of the game is faster. The guys are competitive, they know each other. It was a great battle. You love these games, you just don’t love to be sitting on this end of it. But you love the competition and the way guys get after it. You get the chance to see two of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League. And they put on a display of good football.” - Andy Reid on whether Week 6 felt like a ‘big game’
“No I thought I they did a good job. (Bills LB) Von (Miller) obviously made plays. He’s a Hall of Famer for a reason so he’s going to make plays here and there but then there were some (where) they played good coverage and were in the right spots at the right time so it’s about me finding a way to get the ball out of my hands, finding outlet throws and stuff like that but I think for the most part I thought the offensive line did a good job, it was just a couple of plays. They have a good defense and they’re going to make some plays throughout the game.” - Patrick Mahomes on whether the Bills defense did anything different in Week 6
