The Chiefs had an opportunity to celebrate their Super Bowl LVII win one last time before turning their attention to the 2023 NFL season. The team hosted a private Super Bowl ring ceremony on Thursday night, presenting players and staff members with their jewelry commemorating all of their hard work during the 2022 NFL season.
“I told the guys that are going to be at the ceremony tonight, ‘This is it. You’re celebrating, get your ring.’ Even though we’ve been working this entire time, you have in the back of your mind, we’re getting our rings, we’re Super Bowl Champs. But now, it restarts,” Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes told reporters on Thursday. “That’s how the NFL is. It’s time to move on. You’re going to training camp next, and you want to repeat. No one’s it since 2003-04 with the Patriots, so you know how hard it is to do. We had a chance a couple of years ago, and it didn’t go our way. So, how can we be better from that and have a chance to go up against this AFC that’s got a lot of great quarterbacks and great teams. In order to repeat, we’ve got to start with Day 1, and that’s taking care of ourselves during the break and getting ourselves ready for training camp.”

Quotable:
“Oh, 100%. I know it already. So, first of all, you can see I’m still sweating from the conditioning test we just ran. The hardest memory I remember was right before that Titans preseason game my first year. We went into the group install, and I remember – like I knew the plays – but I got up there, and Coach Reid told Nagy to call the play but don’t tell me the formation. He wanted me to rattle off the formation without knowing what it was. Just call the play and let him know the formation. I remember it just shocked me. I knew them, and my mind just went completely blank. So, I just got up there and I remember there was a play that was like five words, which is the one play in Coach Reid’s offense that’s not like 15 words, and I was so flustered that I forgot it. I forgot the formation. It’s stuff like that. He keeps you on your toes. I know it’s hard physically for guys to get through, but I don’t think people understand the mental side of it. You’re thinking the entire time, and I think that puts as much stress on you as the physical toll. Especially the quarterback position, you have to stay on top of everything because you’ll never know when Coach Reid kind of throws those curve balls at you.” - Patrick Mahomes on Andy Reid’s training camps
