The First 15: Chiefs Get Stars Involved
If the game stopped after the Chiefs’ opening script, you’d feel good about the prospects of this offense moving forward. Early in the game, the offense was driving down the field with ease. They scored 10 points in their first two possessions — the second drive stalled by drops.
As Matt Lane mentioned in the KCSN Postgame Show — this has been the predictable story of the offense: a great early start with 7-10 points in the first two possessions followed by a lot of struggles.
The sample size is getting alarmingly big with the offensive struggles. We aren’t used to seeing this kind of consistently below-average performance from a team that has been the Golden State Warriors of football from an offensive perspective.
Some of the issues are certainly fixable — but they’ve been fixable for weeks and still haven’t been appropriately addressed.
The bye week was supposed to be a time to help fix what has ailed the offense. It did for a drive and a half to start the game, then sputtered out. We should have seen more vintage Andy Reid A+ Call Sheets by now, but we haven’t.
Do the Chiefs have enough in the building to turn it around? Absolutely. But with every game they don’t, the angst builds just a little bit more. At some point — and perhaps soon — we may have to accept that this is what they are.
Here’s a look at the opening script for the Chiefs.
