The Magnitude of "The Block" and the Bills Game
A key play, and a key win, could vault the Chiefs to the top of the conference for good
No Chiefs fan came into their this past Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos expecting it to be a crucial factor in their pursuit of a threepeat. They were heavily favored, and while they’ve been playing close games no one expected it to take such an uncommon feat — a clutch field goal block by Leo Chenal and company — to beat the Broncos at home.
Not much was made about the potential for the trap game in which the Chiefs were favored by more than one score. Not much was made about the team entering the week on short rest after an emotional win over the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.
An up and down performance that saw some good (a second half shutout by the Chiefense), and some bad (inconsistency on offense and uncharacteristic miscues by Mahomes), and ultimately it was a heroic special teams moment in a gotta have it situation that extended the win streak.
What looked like a loss instead kept the Chiefs in a comfortable position in the AFC for the top spot in the conference and the lone bye in the playoffs. And it set the stage for what could be a monumental, potentially insurmountable lead if the Chiefs are to take care of business against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
