This Chiefs Offense Will Require Patience
The vast, vast majority of the time the preference is for teaching moments to occur from a win. Sure, a loss might wake a team out of slumber and effect real change after some near misses, but for the most part you’d sign up for the “survive and advance” approach.
Thank goodness the Chiefs learned some lessons in a 17-9 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars and prevented the dreaded 0-2 start that has doomed a significant amount of teams from achieving the playoffs.
Since 2002, only ten teams have advanced to the playoffs after starting their season 0-2. Almost assuredly the Chiefs would have been an exception to the rule had they dropped this week’s road game against a conference foe that they’ll likely see in the playoffs. We won’t have to find out because the Chiefs found a way to win an ugly game to get back on track.
The ugliness is purely on the offensive side right now. The Chiefs’ defense looks like one of the best units in the NFL, made scarier this week with Chris Jones’ return — and even further terrifying at the prospects of EDGE Charles Omenihu returning from suspension in week seven of the season.
