This Just In: Justyn! What We Learned About Ross' Against the Vikings
Six snaps isn’t a sample size. That is until four targets are crammed into what amounted to a mere 9% of the Chiefs’ offensive plays for their road victory against the Minnesota Vikings.
I am, of course, referencing the limited but fruitful opportunity given to second year wide receiver Justyn Ross — a fan favorite and lightning rod for hope and optimism for Chiefs fans.
The story of Ross is tied to bright moments early in his collegiate career that put him on a trajectory to be an early pick. Injury setbacks kept him not only from being drafted but also delayed the undrafted free agent’s debut in Kansas City.
Ross earning a spot on the 53 man roster this year was a significant — and well deserved — moment in his story. The Chiefs wouldn’t have kept 7 receivers if he hadn’t shown something to them both about his ability and his availability.
While there are corners of Chiefs Twitter (or X?) clamoring for Ross to get involved more frequently, the team have involved him in small doses as he continues to develop.
While Ross played only six snaps this week, he made them count, and gave fans of his a reason for optimism despite a pair of drops on the four targets he received. Does his performance warrant further expansion of his role?
