Three keys to the game for Chiefs against 49ers
Coming out of the bye the Chiefs are 5-0 and have a half-game lead in the AFC over the Houston Texans (5-1). That lead will be put to test against the 49ers, so here are the three x-factors to a win.
Coming off the bye in the sixth week of the NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs will get battle-tested right from the get-go. The San Francisco 49ers come in at 3-3, but the Super Bowl 54 and 58 runners-up are as talented as they ever have been, and they should be hungry to get over .500 coming off a strong performance against the Seattle Seahawks.
It is the Chiefs' offense that will be held under a microscope, specifically the wide receivers over the next two games before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, November 5th. In this Super Bowl rematch Kansas City will line up a one-two-three combination at wide receiver consisting of JuJu Smith-Schuster, Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson, at least snap count-wise.
If Smith-Schuster performs even remotely similar to the way he played against the Saints, or if Worthy is targeted more often and with success, the Chiefs may make a low-level move or no move at all. We will find out exactly what that looks like over weeks seven and eight with the Chiefs going on the road to face the 49ers and the Las Vegas Raiders. With that being said, it all starts in San Francisco, so let's dig into the three keys to Patrick Mahomes going 5-0 against his two-time Super Bowl opponent.
