Three keys to the game for the Chiefs against the Ravens in the season opener

The Chiefs begin their quest to make history tonight, trying to be the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row. First up is AFC powerhouse, the Ravens. Here are three keys to a Chiefs win.

Christmas in September is here for Chiefs Kingdom. The sea of red will be loud and proud as they watch their team unveil a banner for the third time in five seasons. The last time the Baltimore Ravens played a game, the Kansas City Chiefs sent them home packing in their own stadium. 

A lot has changed since then, however. The Ravens have lost linebacker Patrick Queen, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, starting guards Kevin Zeitler and John Simpson, safety Geno Stone, cornerback Ronald Darby, wide receiver Devin Duvernay, running backs Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins and defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. Their only real addition in free agency is 30-year-old future Hall of Fame running back Derrick Henry, along with some solid draft picks, including cornerback Nate Wiggins, tackle Roger Rosengarten, wide receiver Devontez Walker and safety T.J. Tampa. 

The Chiefs lost their most valuable defensive player of the AFC Championship Game, L’Jarius Sneed and also said goodbye to their weak-side linebacker, Willie Gay. Other minor subtractions include swing interior offensive lineman Nick Allegretti, punter Tommy Townsend and safety Mike Edwards. Both the Chiefs and the Ravens are likely to take a step back on the defensive side, but there is no doubt Kansas City got better on offense.
