Tools of the Trade—DOUG & RYOE

This week, in my series previewing various data sites where you can go for advanced stats and analysis, I’m previewing two sites at once. DOUG is a website where you can query various QB stats. RYOE is a metric for running backs (rushing yards over expected), and there’s a shiny app that does a fantastic job of displaying the data in a variety of ways.
We’ll start with DOUG. DOUG (Designing Outstandingly Unique Graphics) is a shiny app built by @Doug_Analytics on Twitter. This app is designed to allow you to compare QB statistics across the NFL. You can make a scatterplot, bar chart, or a weekly line graph with it. You can filter out QBs that don’t meet a specific play threshold, so you don’t get a ton of backup QBs that occlude the chart.
