Weather forces training camp practice indoors | KCSN Daily 8.3
Highlights, news and more from Day 7 of Chiefs training camp
Welcome to another edition of KCSN Daily where we deliver you the best Kansas City Chiefs content directly to your inbox every day.
The Chiefs moved training camp practice to the indoor facilities at Missouri Western State University on Wednesday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms in the area forced the team indoors for the first time this year, which meant that fans were unable to watch the team participate during practice. This tends to happen at least once per year at training camp.
Andy Reid does like to have an opportunity to practice in the elements if there is light rain without an accompanying thunderstorm. In 2021, Reid told the media that he likes it because when players work with a wet football they’ve, “got to have a little bit more focus.”
Not much changes about practice when the team is forced indoors other than the lack of fan attendance. The indoor facility is not big enough to host fans, which is the only reason they close practice to the public. It’s also a little bit more compact during certain drills because they just don’t have the space that they do when they’re working outdoors.

Quotable:
“That’s a big fish. He looks good. I know he’s been working hard down in Miami, and I mentioned that earlier. So, kind of keeping tabs on that as he’s going. It looks like he’s in good shape. We’re ramping him up, so we’re trying to be smart with that the best that we can and get him the work that he needs. But he’s handled it very well. Good to have him back.” - Chiefs HC Andy Reid on Orlando Brown Jr.’s return to practice

“I think they, those inside guys, (Joe) Thuney, Trey (Smith) and Creed (Humphrey), those guys give you good looks. Some top guys in the league and they’re going to go all out every day. They’re not coming in just to get through practice, they come in to work. As far as my rookie year, there’s definitely a leap but the guys who were in my rookie year still give us good work, (Nick) Allegretti, all those guys still come in and work.” - Chiefs DT Tershawn Wharton on the challenge of going against the offensive line in camp
“Oh yeah, I definitely feel like my role has increased. Like you say, those who got big parts of this defense, of this team, so now I feel like me and Nick Bolt (Bolton), we have bigger roles to fill and to lead this defense, to lead this team on the defensive side and just do what we need to do to make sure we’re in position to lead.” - Chiefs LB Willie Gay Jr. on taking up a leadership role in 2022
