What You Missed on Day 2 of Chiefs Training Camp
The second day of Chiefs camp is in the books. Here's what we know.
The second day of the Kansas City Chiefs training camp is in the books as the Chiefs once again braved the St. Joseph heat to prepare for this season.
Anthony Hitchens (hamstring), Armani Watts (foot), Kyle Long (knee), Nick Keizer (back spasms), Malik Herring (knee) did not practice. Running back Darwin Thompson and long snapper James Winchester were also not in attendance.
Here are the highlights from the second day of camp.
Nick Bolton took first-team reps with Anthony Hitchens out.
After tweaking his hamstring yesterday, Hitchens was not in uniform this morning. Filling in for the seven-year veteran was rookie linebacker Nick Bolton. The former Missouri Tiger filled right into Hitchens's role during the 7-on-7 period.
In other linebacker news, Ben Niemann and Willie Gay Jr. received first-team reps as the nickel linebackers during the team session today. In the dime, Niemann was the only linebacker on the field.
Travis Kelce left practice early.
Exhale Chiefs Kingdom, the best tight end in the league appears to be fine.
Kelce left practice on his own power and it was later revealed he had some tightness in his back and hip. It’s believed it is nothing more than that and leaving practice was a precautionary measure. Kelce did not participate in the team’s 7-on-7 period and left shortly after.
Chris Jones has lost some weight.
It was speculated during OTAs that Chris Jones had looked a bit lighter with a move to defensive end in the cards after the addition of defensive tackle Jarran Reed. After practice today, he confirmed that he has in fact lost about 15 pounds.
Jones also explained his target weight for his role as a hybrid defensive tackle/end is 295 pounds. He said he currently weighs 292 pounds. Last season, Jones was 310 pounds.
Catch us at practice tomorrow!
