Who is Catching the Ball for KC
The latest newsletter from KCSN Sports Data Scientist, Joseph Hefner.
This entire offseason, there was a lot of discussion about our wide receiver group. Losing JuJu at the top of the group was a serious cause for concern. There was optimism that Skyy Moore and/or Kadarius Toney would be able to fill the role of the reliable veteran, but also legitimate worry. Through four games, it has certainly felt like our wide receiver group hasn’t performed as they have in the past.
I took a look at how each position group (running backs, tight ends, and wide receivers) has produced in every year that Mahomes has started for the Chiefs. I calculated the percentage of targets, receptions, yards, touchdowns, and total receiving EPA that each position group has accounted for each year. These percentages will show the offensive trends over time much better than the raw numbers.
